PCA meets RG

A system with many degrees of freedom can be characterized by a covariance matrix; principal components analysis (PCA) focuses on the eigenvalues of this matrix, hoping to find a lower dimensional description. But when the spectrum is nearly continuous, any distinction between components that we keep and those that we ignore becomes arbitrary; it then is natural to ask what happens as we vary t...

Shape from Light Field Meets Robust PCA

In this paper we propose a new type of matching term for multi-view stereo reconstruction. Our model is based on the assumption, that if one warps the images of the various views to a common warping center and considers each warped image as one row in a matrix, then this matrix will have low rank. This also implies, that we assume a certain amount of overlap between the views after the warping ...

Non RG logarithms via RG equations

We compute complete leading logarithms in Φ4 theory with the help of Connes and Kreimer RG equations. These equations are defined in the Lie algebra dual to the Hopf algebra of graphs. The results are compared with calculations in parquet approximation. An interpretation of the new RG equations is discussed.

Spectroscopy of K+ x Rg and transport coefficients of K+ in Rg (Rg=He-Rn).

Ab initio calculations employing the coupled-cluster method, with single and double substitutions and accounting for triple excitations noniteratively [CCSD(T)], are used to obtain accurate potential energy curves for the K(+)He, K(+)Ne, K(+)Ar, K(+)Kr, K(+)Xe, and K(+)Rn cationic complexes. From these potentials, rovibrational energy levels and spectroscopic parameters are calculated. In addit...

Counting RG flows

Interpreting renormalization group flows as solitons interpolating between different fixed points, we ask various questions that are normally asked in soliton physics but not in renormalization theory. Can one count RG flows? Are there different “topological sectors” for RG flows? What is the moduli space of an RG flow, and how does it compare to familiar moduli spaces of (supersymmetric) dowai...
